Civic Experience

Enjoying a Kiwanis library project with then Lieutenant Governor Jim Garey.

I grew up in a household that promoted civic responsibility. While Vice-President of the Kiwanis Club of St. James (Winnipeg), I clearly remember my father fundraising to help build a pediatric wing at our local hospital.

Through the years, I have volunteered on many boards and committees. I was granted an opportunity to help shape policy and play a part in building a stronger community.

I was honored to serve alongside many gifted individuals from all walks of life. Those years of civic service helped me gain a diverse spectrum of experience to bring to the Kiwanis International Board.

Examples of my civic work are:

  • Owen Sound City Councillor
  • Chair of Police Services
  • President of Regional Tourism Association
  • President of Chamber of Commerce
  • Director on Board of Public Health

What I’ve Learned: Don’t have a meeting for the sake of a meeting. Time is a precious thing to waste.
